Go for Growth with Braden (celebrating his success!)
Braden was a rockstar and completed both Stronger Brains for growth in executive functioning and three modules of Fast ForWord for growth in core cognitive skills needed to improve his reading and language-based abilities.
This post will focus on his tremendous growth within Fast ForWord. He totaled 63 log-ins across those three modules (Elements I, Elements II, and Reading Level 1) spanning roughly 21 weeks.
In just over 5 months:
Braden grew 1 year and 9 months in his overall reading grade equivalent. He started at the 4th grade level at the beginning of Fast ForWord and is now reading at the late 6th grade level!!!
His overall percentile went from 11th percentile to 42nd percentile (+31 percentile gain)
Braden went from “struggling” to “emerging” in regards to proficiency!!
When we think about what this looks like within individual reading-based skills, Braden improved:
his phonological awareness from 40% to 61% accuracy
decoding from 44% to 80% accuracy
vocabulary from 63 to 88% accuracy
and his comprehension from 53% to 75% accuracy!!!!
Look again at those gains!! Particularly within the decoding gain, this means he is going to be able to break down unfamiliar words with greater ease. This comes in HANDY in late middle school and high school when he is reading more technical vocabulary to grow his understanding of each core subject’s content!
While Braden was working through his brain training , he was also awarded the INTEGRITY award at his school. This is only awarded to one student each year. Let’s CELEBRATE for Braden on his incredible personal accomplishments and HUGE academic gains.
